Poem that Ponders a Paradox

Want Denies Fulfillment
by S. L. Lipson

If I say, “I want,”
I either desire or lack.
Instead say, “I will.

When I say, "I'll try,"
I have not yet done, nor do--
I stay inactive.

Though I say, "I will,"
my promise is not a deed,
unless I will it.
